About Us - Nick & Claire
Originally from South Yorkshire, England, we bought Le Moulin Bonnet in March 2017 and live in the Old Mill that sits in over 32 acres of tranquil Pouzauges with stunning views of the 3 lakes on the property.
We have 4 beautiful and mischievous fur babies, Biscuit, Noodles, Hiccup and Autumn. We have also inherited 3 geese, 1 sturgeon and lots of wildlife, ooooh and of course many carp now swimming in their lovely new home.
I started coarse fishing with my father in the early 70’s. Whilst fishing in my local lake I saw 2 lads fishing for carp. After seeing them catch one, I decided to give it a try myself so I went home, made some bollies from strawberries, ground bait and egg, caught one and I was hooked. I never looked back.
I fished Darenth and Yately in the mid 80’s and went on a fishing holiday to France with a few mates and loved it. I started taking parties over to France dreaming of owning my own carp lake one day.
I started a business in the 90’s which took up all my time but I never forgot about the dream. 7 years ago I started searching areas of France, finally finding the perfect place.
Prior to meeting Nick I had very little knowledge of fishing other than knowing my father fished with his father for many years. I met Nick in 2013 and instantly connected, sharing a mutual love of playing badminton, Nick winning hands down in all our games.
I worked for over 20 years at one of the largest international law firms in the IT department as a project manager overseeing multiple high profile projects simultaneously. This placed me in a perfect position to oversee the re-excavation of the lakes, and the property developments of the Old Mill and the adjacent property housing our guest’s facilities (including a toilet and shower block and eating area).
I also worked as a volunteer for the RSPCA completing home checks for potential adopters and reporting my findings/recommendations. I have an enormous love of animals. I also enjoy cooking, reading, swimming, walking and running.
